Featured Partner Event: MCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Dinner

The Minority Corporate Counsel Association's annual Mid-Atlantic Region Diversity Dinner will take place on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC from 5:30-9:30 pm. The event honors the 2010 Employer of Choice award winners for the Mid-Atlantic region and serves as a great opportunity to hear about innovative diversity programs for local leaders and network with MCCA members and supporters. More information related to the event, including registration details can be found on the organization's website at www.mcca.com.

CLEO forges a partnership with the Just The Beginning Foundation

This summer, CLEO will be participating in the Just The Beginning Foundation's (JTBF) Summer Legal Institutes, which are designed to give a diverse population of high-schoolers a "cursory glance" at the "in's and out's" of the legal profession. For many of the youth, this will be their initial opportunity to come face-to-face with practicing attorneys. One of our primary goals was to have 2-3 alums sit on a panel and discuss their experience with CLEO, law school and the legal profession. We thank all of the alums who have already volunteered to be panelists in one of the institute locations and encourage other alums to participate as well. If you are interested in participating, please contact Ms. Bernetta Hayes, our Secondary Program Specialist, at hayesb@staff.abanet.org or on 202.828.6115. There is still a need for panelists in Indianapolis, IN (June 9); Piney Woods, MS (June 15); Seattle, WA (July 1); Twin Cities, MN (July 15); and Chicago, IL (August 10).

Meet a CLEO…Alum: Ray Hanna ('83)
CLEO alum Ray Hanna attended the Arizona State University Six-Week Summer Institute in 1983. Upon graduation from Arizona State Law School in just two and a half years time, Atty. Hanna entered the U.S. Navy JAG Corps where he was stationed
in Rota, Spain. After leaving the Navy, he entered into private practice in Prescott, AZ. His practice includes criminal defense and plaintiff's personal injury and wrongful death.

After serving the State Bar of Arizona in several different leadership capacities, Ray was installed as the organization's 77th president in June of 2009. A longtime advocate for the cause of diversity and inclusion with respect to the practice of law, Ray believes that "CLEO represents the hope and promise of increased diversity within the profession." And "although many CLEO participants come from very uniquely diverse backgrounds," the organization's mission will not be complete until the profession, as a whole, more equally "reflects the demographics of our communities."

Do We Have Your Current Contact Information???

We sometimes hear from alum and students that they don't receive any correspondence from the organization. If you're one of those individuals, chances are, we don't have your updated contact information on file. To help remedy this dilemma, our "crackerjack" IT specialist created an online form (www.cleoadmin.com/update.cfm) where you can input your current data. And if you have any exciting news you would like to share with the CLEO family please provide it in the appropriate space. Lastly, special thanks to those persons who have already taken a moment to update their info!

Come Interact with CLEO online!

Are you "LinkedIn" with CLEO? Do you receive any "Tweets"(Students)(Alumni) from us? Have seen us on "Facebook?" If you answered, "No," we encourage you to stay "plugged in" by using one or more of these cool networking tools!
