CLEO Mentoring Network is Growing!
We are
pleased to report that the CLEO Mentoring Network (CMN)
has steadily grown over the last 12 months. However, our need
for practicing attorneys who are in good standing with their
respective state bar(s) to register as mentors has grown as
well.
At present,
there are several CMN protégés in need of willing
attorneys to serve as "legal Sherpas." It is incumbent
upon all of alumni and friends within the legal community
to not let our students matriculate through school "Pro
se." Please click
here to download the CMN e-brochure and learn about
the network and signing up as a participant. Thanks!

Alumni Spotlight
Hon. Camelia M. Valdes ('93)
(Prosecutor, Passaic County, New Jersey)
Camelia, who graduated from Rutgers University law school in 1996, attended the 1993 Richmond Six-Week Summer Institute.
|
 |
A first-generation
college student, Atty. Valdes believed that a JD would give
her the "advocacy platform" she sought for so long.
Sworn
in as the Passaic County Prosecutor by then Gov. Jon Corzine,
Atty. Valdes made history on multiple fronts. Upon taking
office, she was: the first Latina county prosecutor in the
State of New Jersey; the first woman prosecutor in Passaic
County; and the first lead prosecutor of Dominican ancestry
in the U.S.
Her advice
to current and prospective law students: "Savor every
moment of the law school experience and every lesson."
We salute
Camelia on her many accomplishments and are proud to call
her one of our own!

Student Spotlight
CLEO DiverCITY Network Diplomat Program
Since
the start of the '09-'10 academic year, more than 30 CLEO
law students have dutifully fulfilled the role of Diplomat
for our CLEO diverCITY Network (CDN). The Diplomats, who are
currently enrolled at some of the nation's best known law
schools, are responsible for promoting our newest participant
category, CLEO Affiliates, on their respective law school
campuses.
It is
our desire to eventually have a minimum of 1-2 Diplomats and
several CLEO Affiliates at every ABA-accredited law school.
Thus, we need more CLEO participants to join our CDN Diplomat
corps. If you are interested in become a CDN Diplomat, please
